Antennas have not been repaired after the Dec. 1 storm, so I didn't know
what to expect when I turned on the rig. TX antenna is a broken inv-L,
basically a random 1/4-wave wire with maximum height around 35 feet. The EU
Beverage is broken at the termination and most of it is buried under two
feet of ice and snow -- but with extra preamp gain, it's still usable. Also
have three other intact Beverages (NW, SE, W).
Conditions seemed excellent. With low power and low TX antenna height, I was
pleased to put 6 EU stations and KH6LC in the log. Best DX was UW2M.
Operated 45 minutes around sunrise and heard several strong JAs, but never
got more than a "?" from any of them.
Activity sounded pretty sparse, but that's OK -- SPDXC is a fun and friendly
operating event that just happens to include scorekeeping.
