40 meters is a mess if more than one mode is holding a contest on that band. The worst offenders are the RTTY ops who can cover virtually all of the lower 100 khz. Hopefully more will move to the 7100 to 7150 portion of the band. Same for CW or SSB contests. CW goes up to 7080 or 85 and Dx SSB can go from 7020 up. Then there is the growing Spanish non hams running HP USB between 7000 and 7025. I have heard some European DX on SSB above 7100 and a 9A was on 7181 working simplex. So the real problem will be mostly between digital and CW once everyone has 7000 to 7200...just wish 7200 to 7300 were also ham in all regions. Dave K4JRB |
