Thanks to the A. Volta folks for sponsoring and doing all the behind the
scene work to put on this Contest. This is one of the oldest RTTY
Contests. Remember working it in the 70ties.
Thanks as well to all who participated. Lot of very courteous operators as
the bands were crowded at times due to the lousy higher freq. band
conditions.
Bands were very bad at the start of the Contest. Signals were not strong
on 20 m making any kind of a run rhythm difficult. Even S&P was
tough. Only one European station worked on 15 the other three were SA
stations. Never listened on 10 meters.
In spite of the storms in the Mid-West, 80 was reasonable for this time of
year. The loud European signals were workable. ZL4BR was kind enough to
QSY to 80 during a lull in activity at 0800Z for a contact.
At the beginning wasn't sure how the Contest would turn out as still
fighting the new computer (my original SO2R set-up doesn't work with this
computer). Also, the amp. blew a xsistor in the bias circuit ~ an hour into
the Contest. Fortunately, the computer worked fine in a SO1R arrangement
once the Writelog configuration file was set-up and the amp. was fixed in
15 minutes (helps if you previously had to fix the same thing). The ant.
and other station stuff worked a lot better than the operator. Turned out,
this was my best score in a Volta Contest.
Had fun and learned a few things making this a successful contest.
73,
Mike, K4GMH
