If it were me, I'd do one of the following...

# 1 - upgrade your antenna system (i.e. more antenna gain, more sections on the 
tower, or improving the feedline... a few DB here or there goes a L-O-N-G way 
and then you wouldn't need an amplifier !!!)

# 2 - if SO2R is your game, sell the FT-840 and buy another TS-450SAT w/250 Hz 
filters
