Kind of repetition, to see what it is possible to do with a very basic
station, built from scratch in 1/2 day. Was planning to install the spiderbeam,
but problem: not enough space to assemble it on the ground (you need 10mx10m
clear), so it ended up as a rotary dipole. After antenna installation, second
problem with the microHam MK, which for some reason did not appreciate the
travel... So had to improvise with AFSK... finaly everything was ready just
before contest start.
Really appreciated to operate from a noise-free location (about 10dB less noise
than from home), but it gave me the impression that a few stations were really
deaf. On the other hand was surprised by the 80m perf, with a shortened dipole
only 1/6 of wl high (comparatively, the 80m worked better than the 40m). With
lousy conditions on 21 (no JA no W), and 28 absolutely dead, 20m has really been
the band (1/2 of total points and 1/3 of total mults)
First try of true-TTY as second decoder... it really helped to avoid repetition
requests especialy on 40/80. In general found that true-TTY performs slightly
better than MMTTY which confirms VE3NEA lab tests.
Really impressed by the massive SP participation (all provinces have been
contacted) Thanks all for the QSO's, and to the contest sponsors for organizing
this event. See you from home in the next one.
