Hi Bruce, Tom, et al.................
(Thanks for the new one on RTTY Bruce!)
It is quite common to see people calling CQ in contests that are nothing to
do with the contest. In such instances, the best thing to do is simply to
avoid them.
I would assume that YOU called HIM, and as such, I guess you didn't get the
correct report. That would have been the time to cut and run, or simply note
the QSO for your own statin log. I have done this with PY0FF, ZD8, and a few
others.
I don't know why some 'special-event' stations decide to operate during a
major contest when they have no intention of participating, but some do.
Then there are those who do participate, but work big splits! Oh boy,
doesn't THAT cause havoc.
If the station that is calling CQ is good dx, and you need it for DXCC, then
- again - simply log it for your own purposes, and don't send a serial
number.
OTOH, if THEY call you, then it can be a pain, and I would guess that ZF2NT
will attract quite a few callers who simply want a new one, and can't/won't
send a serial number. (I had a few callers in this contest in that brigade!
Calling CQ TEST, and they come back with name, qth etc etc etc!!!)
This can then be a whole different ball-game, as if you end up logging loads
of 001 serial numbers, you could well end up losing loads of points simply
because they will be considered as UNIQUES.
The best way to handle the fact that you have logged him, would be to list
it as a void call for points, remove the one point for the call, and
recalculate the score. If you don't do this, then you may be penalized by
more than the one point.
I also noticed a coupe of other stations that were on during the contest,
calling CQ with big signals, but when called, they launched into name, qth,
rig, etc etc, so I avoided those like the plague! I bet whoever called them
wished they hadn't!
I know that isn't the answer you wanted to hear, but I guess it is the
CORRECT way.
Perhaps someone else knows better??
73 to all
