Jim,

There was some extended discussion
on this forum in May 2021 regarding
minimal RFI inverters. The general
consensus was to avoid SolarEdge
at all costs, and Enphase was mentioned
as having low RFI. As with all such
things, the specific model of Enphase
micro-inverter needs to be known for
its conducted and radiated EMI specs.
Proper installation practices (e.g. using
twisted-pair cabling rather than paralleled
conductors, possibly some ferrites) are
a necessity, too.

Is there an option for a central inverter
rather than the distributed micro-inverter
system design? The principal advantage
of the micro-inverter architecture for
PV module interconnects is greater
efficiency if the PV array experiences
selective shading of individual modules.
If your daughter's home doesn't suffer
from too much shading on the intended
PV array location, the central inverter
approach is well-established and there
are several very low EMI inverter brands
available on the market (e.g. SMA,
Fronius).

My son-in-law & daughter are considering solar panels for their home. Since I
occasionally visit there with radios, and for a general interest in doing
things right, can somebody spare me a lot of searching and offer a quick report
on solar panel inverters?
Right now their leading proposal uses the Harvest system with its Enphase
micro-inverters. Are these good, bad, or meh? Any particular brands of
inverters to recommend or avoid?

I have followed the topic enough to understand the concepts of twisted pairs,
skipping panels to loop back wiring, etc.

Thanks,

Jim K8MR
