As noted, a VERY effective rebuttal was read today on Morning 
Edition. So the local reporter, Wade Goodwin, who reported the story 
was hornswoggled, but at least NPR had the professionalism to choose 
and broadcast a very well written rebuttal that they said was 
representative of many received.
