sri... in this one ak and hi count as one of the 50 states not as dx.
when 5.2.3 says 'except the us' they exclude ak and hi from the dxcc
list.

there does seem to be a bug that doesn't darken the ak or hi in the 
alt-z map, but does count them in the alt-m country list... but you
can't count them twice.
