Aluminum is rarely used in it's pure form for any purpose. I'm no
metallurgist, but I know there are many aluminum boats used in salt
water with no ill effects. I suspect the exact alloy makes a huge
difference. Presumably the tower makers are aware of this, but you
might compare the tower alloys with the boat alloys.
