OUCH!! It really does hurt and I guess one doesn't know how much until it
becomes personal. Yeah, deep down inside I have an ego like everyone else.
My valiant effort in the '94 ARRL DX SSB contest somehow never made it to
the ARRL contest office. And it was a beautiful score, the result of spur
of the moment arrangements to operate what was suddenly a free weekend!
I would have placed 2nd in the Low Power category, just 300k behind the
winner, KP2/KE2VB, and 9th place overall. And my dabbling on CW failed
to gain publication as well.
I e-mailed the logs befor the deadline and asked more than once for a
confirmation that they had been received. I never did get an answer so
I had my brother call the office to ask. He was told that CW was OK and
they were checking on SSB.
Not making publication REALLY HURTS and I just want to express my
empathy for others who have had scores of any size lost in the works.
Please, any suggestions on how this can be avoided in the future will be

Yes Yes Yes, Part of the fun of a contest is reading the comments,
results, band condition observations, equipment successes and failures,
etc of familiar calls worked over the years. One can always pass over
mail not of interest, or even unsubscribe.

I think we've all heard time and again that if everyone is listening on 10
but no-one is transmitting, that no-one is going to work anything. I
managed to snag W6EEN and KG6LF on scatter from the south. As in Alan's
case, it was a struggle. My KT34XA is very effective on ten, but running
low power didn't help. After working those stations I tried cqing on fone
and cw a number of times with no response. One must consider that there
is a slight difference in how we operate day to day as opposed to during a
contest. In a contest if you are on a dead band calling cq, you're not
making gravey. If W6EEN had milked the other bands dry he had nothing to
lose calling cq on ten (especially with a big signal). Remembering an
incident in the last fone NAQP kept me checking 10 for activity. Late in
the evening W5WMU asked me to move to ten meters. I thought Pat or whoever
was operating was nuts. Well low and behold there was a tremendous se
opening to the south. If he hadn't asked me to move I would have missed a
bunch of easy q's and at least one multiplier as I recall. In the major
contests there are usually big m/m's constantly calling cq on ten so we
are aware of openings even skewed path. I frequently listen at the low end
of 10 on into 27mhz to see if there's any prop. Did you folks know that
there are cbers or hfers or whatever they call them selves working cw
