I've been reading on about the 24 hour debate and how it would or might
not increase contest activity. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure
it really would increase activity from guys who aren't contesting now.
But, I can tell you this.... I hate SSB just enough not to get on for
48 hours, but if you wet my whistle with a 24 hour category, I'll be in
it every time. Now you have KM9P either working 0 QSO's for 48 hours,
or you have KM9P working maybe 1000+ QSO's in 24 hours. In this scenario
you have DEFINATELY increased participation!
What I think would be more meaningful, would be to increase the awards
and publicity given to the guys who can't win the contest. Look what
the plaque program did for SS. Now you have guys from the northeast
operating SS again. If I lived in California, I probably wouldn't
operate ARRL DX or CQWW either (from home). But, if I had a chance at
a regional plaque and/or recognition I probably would. I think this
is one of the reasons the JA
ooopss... JA's aren't operating contests... No chance to compete.
