Subject: [Amps] Are exciter RF delays to prevent hot keying cataloged
anywhere?
I know most rigs employ a delay of some milliseconds between the time
when their amp relay closes and RF transmission begins in order to prevent
hot keying problems. On some, this is even an adjustable parameter, but
on most it is fixed.
Has anyone compiled a list of delay values for the various commercial
transceivers that have been sold over the years? It would seem that
such a list would be quite useful to hams trying to retrofit a new amp
into their shack. In addition to the delay figure, one could also add
the voltage/amperage limits of the keying circuit, too.
Inquiring minds...

## This is from the Array solutions QSK master. Most xcvr's,, like
all yaesu FT-1000-D.. MP.... and MK-V all use PIN diodes.
## On the MK-V [ + field version] on CW mode only... there
is an adjustable 0-30 msec delay in the menu... so the amp
relays can get a 0-30 msec head start. On ssb mode... the delay
is 5 msecs.. as noted in the below list. Beware, the spst mech relay
in the 1000-D takes 15 msecs to operate. I use the TX grnd from the
band data jack instead [ just a few microseconds] to operate a p=B
opto isolator [ 100 micro second op time] Opto in turn keys the vac
relays in the amp. The P+B ODC-15 and ODC-15A both have a 9-18 vdc
@ 15 ma input. Output side on the ODC-15 is rated at 60 vdc @ 3A CCS .
Output side of the ODC-15A is rated at 200 vdc @ 1A CCS. RLS time
on both of em is 750 microseconds. 4 kv isolation between input
and output of both opto isolators.
This is not a complete list below.. but a very good start.

Some popular transceiver "amp-enable-to-RF output" delays are as follows:
Elecraft K3: 8ms
ICOM IC-706: 15ms
ICOM IC-7000: 10ms
Kenwood TS-480/2000: 10ms
TenTec Orion/OmniVII: 15ms
Yaesu FT-1000MP MKV: 5ms
Yaesu FT-2000: 15ms
