The contest station database now has 843 US/VE stations in it, of which 226
records are new or newly updated. I thought there might be general interest
in knowing what this group of HF contesters chooses as their rigs. Keep in
mind that this is not a random sdampling; that many stations reported more
than 1 rig; and that many multi-ops gather equipment from other stations
that may appear in the database in their own right.
323 stations reported at least one Kenwood transceiver; the corresponding
figure is 316 for Yaesu, 188 for Icom and 64 for Ten-Tec. 9 listed
equipment made by other manufacturers.
The Yaesu FT-1000 series was the overwhelming choice of those reporting --
229 stations have one or more of these radios. 107 have FT-1000MPs, while
78 have FT-1000Ds, and 50 reported plain FT-1000s (mostly the D model?).
Among Kenwoods, the TS-850 was the leader, appearing at 89 stations,
followed by the TS-940 with 78, the TS-930 with 63, the TS-950 with 33, and
the TS-870 at 7 stations. The remainder have other models (430s, 440s,
830s, etc.)
For Icom, the numbers look like this: IC-765 60, IC-735 23, IC-781 20,
IC-775 18, IC-751 15, IC-761 13, and IC-756 13.
If you feel your favorite transceiver is underrepresented, it may be
because you haven't updated your record in the database. Why not go to ---
