Hi Alek,
:G'day from VK6.
:There's a Dentron GLA-1000 amplifier up for grabs here very cheap with
spare tubes.
:I'm not familiar with the machine. Does anybody know what sort of tubes
it
:runs and if it is any good?
It was originally supplied with a D-50 tube which was a "special version"
of the common 6LQ6/6JE6 sweep tube. The plain 1000 had no tuned input,
the B version added a much needed input matching circuit board. If your
using an exciter with a tube output section (common dual 6146b type), the
GLA-1000 plain amplifier will work better vs a solid state transmitter.
The B version works ok on both types of exciters.
:At $250.00 Australian, ($160.00 US) including the spares, it seems to be
a bargain.
It's a good price for a project amplifier. Simple improvements would be
to cut off the tube current during standby, install a better bias diode
scheme and some 10 ohm resistors in the cathode leads to improve
linearity. Pick it up if you can...
cheers
skipp
