I recently posted a help request concerning the removal of glue residue
from the front panel of a Kenwood TL922 amplifier (see attached). I
received two replies both of which did not appeal to me. I did search
the 'net for a possible solution and found a product that possibly had
the qualities I was looking for. The product is called X-NMS Clean Up
Solvent and is manufactured by Loctite Corporation, Newington CT. The
product number for a 2oz. bottle is 76820. The bottle label says that
"X-NMS quickly and safely dissolves cured cyanoacrylate based adhesives
in bonds or on equipment, clothes". Cyanoacrylate based adhesives
include products such as Krazy glue.
While the solvent worked very well it was a time consuming, tedious
job. The panel paint and silk screen markings were unaffected by the
solvent which even removed ball point pen marks that had been placed on
parts of the silk screen dials.
At one point when the panel was in such a mess I thought about ordering
a new panel and meter glass from Kenwood. For those interested the
panel/glass part numbers are A20-2403-12/B10-0609-03. These parts are
still available although locally, Kenwood said that they would have to
be ordered from Japan. I hope the above information will be useful to
others who may encounter similar problems with products of the Krazy
glue type.

I recently bought a used TL922 amplifier. It is in excellent
condition
except for the front panel. The former owner glued 3" graduated dial
plates to the panel tune and load positions. He either used Krazy glue
or some form of clear epoxy. I have managed to remove the metal dials
but there is quite a bit of glue residue remaining on the panel which I
have found impossible to remove. I have tried WD40, acetone, varsol,
laquer thinner, nail polish remover and a heat gun.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how to remove the glue/epoxy
without damaging the panel paint or the silk-screened tune and load
markings.
