THE GOOD NEW:
I set a new personal for CQWW CW SOAB QRP; just short of 1.8M. The last time I
was close was in the year 2000 with just over 1.7M.
Conditions were GREAT. I have never experienced 40m being so good. As a QRP
guy, I shocked to work almost everybody on one call…even the good stuff. Yes,
this is going to be an all-out effort from me with minimal sleep and lots of DX.
I am PSYCHED!
THE BAD NEWS:
On Saturday night (local time), I went to be early (maybe around 10pm local),
because I had not spent enough time on 20m that morning (local time), I was
missing a LOT of mults, and I wanted to get an early start and move to 20 on
Sunday morning (local) as soon as it opened to EUR, to make up for it. But at
some point (I was asleep) my visiting daughter bangs on the bedroom door.
“Mom needs your help!” So I hurriedly get dressed and run downstairs. The
house is empty. I run outside and call out loud. No answer. I run back inside
and I call my wife’s cell phone. She is outside with my daughter, on the
corner. I get in the car and drive there. My wife is sort of sitting up and
blood all over her face and hands. She had fallen walking my daughter’s dog
and decided to break her fall using her face. Her face has a gaping wound over
her right eye (eyebrow) and there is a massive hematoma there too. So a trip to
the Emergency Room for her! Because we are old and she is over 65, it is
mandatory that she also get a head CT after a fall. More lost time! Back home,
I set my alarm for essentially zero sleep and go to bed. At 8am (local) I wake
up on my own. The alarm is now set to OFF and I never heard it go off. Things
we do in our sleep!
So I end up with 12 and a half hours of OFF time (bummer). I still beat my own
record, but I know it could have easily been over 2M points (for some reasons,
we humans like round numbers).
Other stuff: Another QRP DXCC in 48 hours: 118 separate country mults and 34
zones. Nice. The universe genuinely loves CQWW.
As W5OV would say: ILTHRS
