COMMENTS:
Thanks to Dan, W7WA for the invite to operate his great Radio
Station. Thanks to all for the Q's.
Station:
Felt fairly loud considering LP, and enjoyed the 40m opening!
QTH:
W7WA enjoys a beautiful, quiet, country-style QTH
with views of the epic Olympic Mountains and it's National
Forest to the west.
Certainly one of the magical radio QTHs of the Pacific Northwest.
For me, doing an SS in the USA West, I wasn't sure about a full effort and
took a minute to agree to take a seat.
However, this year there was a twist in the fun.
K7RI was to be operated by Mats KQ7W. The few days leading up to the
contest, Mats and I had many QSO's and he had no idea I would be on.
When he bailed to RI, I quickly packed for W7WA to take him on, same class,
etc.
The contest starts, I put RI in my sites from W7WA FT1000mp 2nd VFO.
It truly was a horse race, and not until Sunday did I break down to tell
him as he crossed my frequency for a Qso!
We were 100 Q's apart at times, and spent most of the time between
a 30-50 Q spread. Will be interesting to see the different bands that
produced for us both.
Thanks to K7SS and KQ7W for an "edge of the seat, always on the move,
mini-race" blazing out the first few hours of the test!
