Class: Multi-Op HP
QTH: ZL
Operating Time (hrs): 20
QSOs: 120 States/Provinces: 35 Countries: 6 Score: 45,674
Comments:
Excellent opening to North America at sunset on the 1st night
but the remainder of the contest was very slow with only 2 or
3 QSOs per hour. Propagation to the North East was very poor
- worked a few VK, JA stations and DU9/N0NM but nil from Europe.
Pleased to improve on last year's score of 14,000 but still well
down on the 100,000 that we achieved in 2000.
Antennas used were a 200m longwire (40m AGL at highest point), a
half delta loop (40m AGL at top corner), and a terminated rhombic
for receiving.
We support the proposal to extend the contest to 48 hours and
restrict the operating time to 30 hours.
The current rules are frustrating because they restrict ZL to a
single sunrise window - the 48 hour contest will give us two
sunrise windows like everyone else!
How about TWO operating period categories - one restricted to 30
30 hours and the other to say 10 hours? The 10 hour category
recognises that ZL and other remote countries do not have any
local activity during daylight and are limited to operation in
night hours. It will also encourage entries from operators who do
not have time for 30 hours or just want to have some fun in the
limited periods when propagation is best.
Thanks to everyone for the QSOs and fun, CQ magazine for the
contest, the Wellington Amateur Radio Club for the ZL6QH Quartz
Hill station and to those who loaned us equipment.
