Spent the first night of the contest drinking in the Silver Dollar Saloon
in Jackson Wyoming, 1500 miles from the rig. In fact, this is where I
spent the SECOND night of the ARRL DX CW test the weekend before!!! Seems
to be a pattern here.
Anyway, caught a plane home to Indiana the next day, unpacked my bags
and took a few more aspirin, and turned on the rig... 160 was hopping and
I remembered that there was a contest afoot, so worked a few SMC
members and had a few more brews. Contest would have been a lot more
fun if the Brand X tuner had not smoked its roller about 1/3 of the way into
the test... choice to either run 600 watts on the 35 KHz where antenna SWR
is acceptable, or to use the tuner at 100 watts to work above 1850 KHz.
So I did both, which made for a regal pain in the posterior... after a few
hours of accidentally sparking and flashing and cussing, the bed looked
pretty good.
Contest was fun anyway
