You know you are nuts when you hop in a plane and
leave sunny San Diego for snowy Utah...

A very big thank you to Alan and Eileen
for hosting me again. SS phone is my favorite and
it was very nice to travel back to "home" to op at
Al's for the third straight year.

Story: This years' goal was to crack 1750 and head for 2000
Q's. Started off right on track with my best SS start ever.
Warmed up on 20M and just knew it would be good. 350 Q's
in the first 3 hours or so before the band shut down.
Kept going on 40 and 75 and went for bed 8 hours in
with about 700 in the bank and looking forward to more 100
hours on 20M sunday. Unfortunately the rate wasn't there as
it has been the past couple years. Not sure at this point if
it was me, or conditions, or a bit of both. We also picked up
a new, unidentified, noise that was S9+ across the whole band
which wiped it out for about an hour total. Regardless, it's 20M
or nothing from Utah and not being able to command a run freq
means I'm losing ground fast (down 140 Q's from last year and
it needed to go the other way).

By midday it was clear 1750 was not even a dream. Started
thinking sweep. Still needed VI, PR and Mar. Found PR + VI
on 15M after a little poking about. Still nothing from VE1.

Back to 20 for tough 50-75 hours, but no good freq and lots
of QRM. Started searching for a spot down low and voila:
VY2LI with a booming signal and big pile! First call and
into the log. Finally found a clear spot and decent rate.
Soon called by 2 more KP2s, a second KP4, and an "extra"
VO1. So much for the time spent on mult hunting. Probably
a lesson in there....

Thanks to VY1JA and the KH8/something which were the only single
sections this year. Lot's Q's from Ne, Wy, Mt, Sd, Nd and Del.
Nice to hear all the activity from some "tough" sections.

Tnx for the Q's.
