80: Noise with storms overhead all weekend. Beverages only savior. CQed
to Europe Sunday (EU) morning after a 2 hour nap. Woke up hearing K3ZO
calling CQ and working a bunch of guys. Talk about motivation. A little
later I asked Fred what his number was so that I could get motivated again.
He lied and added 100 Q's to the total. Thanks Fred!
40: My stack 402CD's work regardless of the 204BA's on the same tower.
Many Europeans told me I was very loud. 2nd night and Sunday night were
most productive. Every European I worked was on 7020Khz. Sorry SM3???. If
I must listen above 7040Khz, I don't work anyone. 40M SSB above 7040Khz is
a joke with the gassy Italians (very loud and wide).
20: Very very full. I think this contest is popular in Europe and makes it
more difficult to find a frequency. In the DX contest, you can nudge up
against another USA guy and keep things relatively clear. 1200 QSO's at
least on 14.348Mhz. Many cops telling me I was out of the band. Guess if
the FCC writes, I'll send em my log and we can start a chain letter. Caught
KC1XX and K3ZO on Sunday afternoon with a favorable opening for me. A
couple of Europeans said I was 10DB louder than anyone on the band. This
was after European sunset. Making me rethink if I need a 48' boom on this
band when I make this much noise with a 204BA at 45'. Pointed the top 204BA
at JA. Not much of an opening either night. 20 is much better up north.
Didn't hear or work any of that Asia stuff that KQ2M noted in his breakdown.
15M: SA & Africa. CQed here when I needed to tune 20M with the 2nd radio.
3 Europeans worked all weekend. KR0Y noted Texas getting a good JA opening
on Saturday night. I can't figure that out. Isn't JA from Texas generally
a more difficult path than Europe in Georgia? I would have thought so.
10M: SA S&P with 2nd radio. High 10M antenna really works. CQed here on
Sunday afternoon when I lost my 20M frequency and needed to find a new one.
Turned out to be a good move. Made the rate meter go up and worked many new
mults. Also found a GREAT 20M CQ frequency. Won't tell you how... gotta
keep a few things to myself.
Having my own station is great. I love working out all of the kinks. It's
given me new motivation for operating. If I can do this well with no 15M...
