A few days ago I saw a discussion here about switchable-direction beverages. Andrei RA6LBS described his antenna made from twin-lead twisted wires which were used in military telephone systems. The si

When you're thinking about the impedance, remember that this is the impedance of that line when used as a twisted pair transmission line. That will NOT be the impedance of a Beverage antenna that you

With a twisted wire, the user would have to be concerned with loss in the line and performance changes between wet and dry weather including impedance changes. I don't know if this line has conductor

Rys want to use this twested military telephone line for a two wire beverage , I agree Jim, on one direction the impedance between the two wires and the ground will be more or less the same as with a

Jacques, Other than the possible impedance change with weather that W8JI warns about, you should not have any problem using the 150 Ohm line for a reversible beverage as long as you adjust the transf

You are right Tom, I measured the losses of the 150 Ohms twisted military telephone line: I made two transformers 50 to 150 ohms tested them in serie , had about 0.4 dB losses from 1 to 30 MHz, then

hi Rys, I have been using exactly that kind of twisted wire for most of my (unidirectional) contest beverages in the past, because of its excellent strength (and its low price)... as untwisting comes

Untwisting the military telephone wire can be a real chore, but it can be done with patience. I have untwisted lengths of 880' by chucking the wire into a cordless drill. It takes one person on each
