Around 1963 or 64 I worked W6, G, DL, VK and several South American's with a Globe Scout 65 and a dipole at 30ft. Very few people even thought of Inverted L's, or even of using an amp. W2EQS was one

Roy, Yes indeed they would! A low dipole to the ground can be a superb antenna at Sunrise and Sunset for certain long haul DX on topband. It is a valuable and simple antenna to have available during

I dont think he was discouraging it - just pointing out the realities. Any antenna IS better than no antenna but it's important not to let anecdote pass without at least presenting the facts besides
