Friends in Radio Land - The Meanook magnetometer data is in for early January and a nice quiet spell, with K-sums 1, 2, 0 and 3, was noted in the four-day period from Jan 3-6. Add 27 days and see if

No it isn't Bob! Try working across into the bottom half instead. I had my best opening to the US since moving to this QTH on the 12th. 73, Greg, ZL3IX

**NEVER** abandon 160 when the K sums are high! That is the time to watch the band. Propagation was not only excellent to you Greg, it was excellent to the rest of the world even on near-polar paths

What attracts me is that The Band is SO unpredictable and definitelly magic.... I had some good/excellent DX openings when K index was 4 or 5, the most recent one on 30 Dec 2001. VK6HD was 599 + 15 d

Tom W8JI and Greg, ZL3IX are correct. The Kp index just doesn't consistently correlate that well with poor overall propagation conditions on 160. If the Kp index is high it "could" mean unpredictable

Friends in Radio Land - Meanook data for K-values in the last half of September is in and, as you would expect, it is far from quiet, only two days (20th and 24th) with K-sums in single digits. About

Friends in Radio Land As I have said many times, magnetic activity peaks around the equinoxes and this time was no exception. So the low K-sums at Meanook were 10 and 11 on the 23rd and 24th of Septe

Friends in Radio Land The Meanoon K-data is in hand again and the K-sums were the lowest, 8 and 6, on September 10 and 11. Hope for more magnetic quiet in 27-28 days after those dates. Otherwise the
