I was looking at a 160 meter operating site which looks really promising. The only downside for this site is that its only about 2 miles from another very active topband station. I realize the degree

W4EF: contest without incurring a significant handicap (clicks, phase-noise, blocking)? Definitely too close. I once lived ~2 miles from W0YK and ~4 miles from K0RF (flat terrain). It was impossible

I'm about 6 miles from K0RF and line-of-sight. With a K3 and a 200 Hz filter I only notice their presence when within 1 or 2 KHz. So based on this very limited data, I would say that 5 miles is doabl

Even 10 miles is marginal on 160. At my Colorado QTH, I lived 10 miles east of K0RF, and 10 miles west of AA0RS. Beverages made it barely doable. No way listening on the transmit antenna. 73, Steve,

Mike, I agree two miles would be way too close for two high power 160 stations. In addition to your radio, you might have to also be concerned about the IMD characterisitics of any receiving array co

Thanks to all for the replies. Great information. Sounds like the answer to my questions is that 2 mile separation can work, but its a dicey proposition (I would have to listen through him to hear Eu

I have some experience with a 500 KV line. This probably isn't a big issue in southern California - but up here where it rains a lot - the 500 KV line can be VERY LOUD on 160 meters - and just loud o

Mike: I lived about 1-2 miles away from the same 500kV line that Tree mentioned. I listened for 3 years on 160 and never heard a single EU station until I moved away. In the moist air that thing was
