Hi folks. I'm assembling a stack of VHF/UHF beams (2m-23cm) and I have a question about running the coax from the antenna connectors. These are M2 antennas where the connector is pointing along the b

What is the engineering reason that you need a strain relief loop even though the coax is supported and there is no pull on the connector? I have a dozen antennas arranged just as you describe, no pr

Hmmm... The REAL problem is the flexible coax run past the point where the rotating mast joins the non-rotating support structure... Generally, that little bit of an "S" bend in the cable at that con

Same here as Jim, never had a problem. Seems like I remember RG 17 had a problem with cold wx causing the connector center pin to put back and possibly not make a connection. I use all heliax now wit

I concur with Jim, there is no need for a strain relief loop, as there is no strain, given the method of taping or tie-wrapping to the boom that you describe. However, even if you did put in a strain

Depending on the mechanical configuration at the feedpoint, a drip loop may be a good idea. 73 - Jim K8MR In a message dated 3/21/2009 3:11:34 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, mail@jimforsyth.com writes:

I must disagree with you on using electrical tape to hold up coax on a beam or tower. Here in South Florida, electrical tape can't stand up to the heat and rain, and it will eventually fall off. Same

Thanks for all the great feedback guys. Sounds like no loop is the way to go. 73, Michael - N6MEF _______________________________________________ VHFcontesting mailing list VHFcontesting@contesting.c

Another good point about the use wire ties (zip ties) . Tape is the best and use the 3M stuff that cost about $3.60 a roll. Do not use the bargain tape for this application. I made the mistake of usi

I have found that the best thing is to use Large, Black (1/4"-1/2"wide) cable ties made by a good manufacturer (Panduit, T Betts Etc) to work well here in the Central Florida Sun. In hard to reach pl
