If you put a pot across the key line of a Johnson Model 122 VFO and adjust it so the VFO just pops into oscillation - you get a nice weak signal to mix with incoming CW - that just happens to be offs

It seemed like the southern hemisphere enjoyed great conditions last night. ZS1REC said the band was open all night and was 559 into Oregon around 0445 UTC for a good 15 minutes. HK3O was 579 or so.
