Radials are a lot of work to put in, and the expense of wire is significant.  I can't see any justification for not joining them the best way available.  IMHO, silver brazing.   I use and recommend S

Matt, MAPP gas and a small torch doesn't pose much of a threat to pure copper. I've never had an issue, and I am not particularly skilled. A few asked me about sources for Stay-Silv 15. Here is one e

Mike, One thing that I used to do is put a 80M trap between the top of the vertical and the L wire to use it on two bands. I know yours is not guyed and cant support top weight. Mine was the same; he

I agree with the comments so far, and also that a 2:1 transmission line transformer is a good method.  But if you are in a hurry, here is an very easy approach.   Just use a hairpin match.  Mine was

I did what Rick describes for a few years with good success. A commercial 80M trap worked fine for me. One issue here is the weight of the trap. An effective solution for me was to run the Inv-L wire

With regards to below...   If folks can't hear each other on 160, how about...then they don't make the QSO.  Distant remotes are bogus, and we don't need more power.  This isn't SUPPOSED to be easy

Rick,   Think another minute.  A guy might need 6000 of them - he cant cut and drill those, much less string nearly 100 of them along each long radial, possibly hundreds of them.  The steel ones degr

Friends, I've got to disagree with the many comments slamming the old but venerable PL259 and advocating for N. While the N connector is great from an RF standpoint, one should note that the impedanc

Joe, For a simple Beverage, you just point the antenna (unfed end) at the target. For length, "longer is better" is approximately true, but the ideal lengths are about 1 to 2 wavelengths. Much longer

Gene, I have used those and others in that series with only fair results. They do break more often than I'd like. I replace about 10% of them per year, which is acceptable given that they are cheap.
