Just bought a new FT-1000D. I notice now that the temperature controlled fan seems to be quite audible compared to other rigs with internal fans. Distinctive buzzing noise as it speeds up and stops.

If you have the NB on high setting, strong signals can cause the blanker to distort the desired signal. Either turn he NB off or reduce the NB level control. That may be what'c causing the problem. J

I kind of notice the same thing on extremely strong AM signals (30+ db over S9), but not sure if it's on the signal itself (i.e. lact of spectral purity of the transmitter) or in the receiver. Just b

I've discovered something about my so-called "intermod"... One "spur" I get about 9.4 khz above a strong (S9+30) AM broadcast signal (when on LSB) seemed to be audible on both sides of the null point

Well after playing with my FT-1000 a bit, I notice the same thing happening. This intermod is apparently happening in the IF Unit, not in the front end. I can eliminate this intermod by cranking back

Scott, In addition to the audio intermod with dense CW signals, I noticed a very weak spur either side of a very strong carrier which can apparently be changed by adjusting the SHIFT or WIDTH control
