FT-2000/5000/9000 expect RTS/CTS handshake ... you need at least five wires in the serial cable (2-2, 3-3, 5-5, 7-7, 8-8). I have a full serial cable. A regulad DB9 serial cable, not a null-modem. Tried setting the CAT TOT to 1000 and also 3000. Have it set on serial port 1. As long as I hard set the baud rate the same both in WL and the rig I can use any baud rate.
