THIS is the type of posting I like to see here! Since I've been Single-Op Portable in almost every VHF+ contest, I've designed my station for setup that is as quick and easy as I can make it. My Yagi
I have a couple preamps to fix/replace. Seems my 903 and possibly 1296 preamps have gone bad. I got some Filtronics LPD750's at a hamfest. I copied the Filtronics circuit board patterns recommended f
I'ver never done this yet but I've occasionbally thought of calling a pizza place 15 miles away with my cell phone when I'm on a hilltop and ordering a pizza. I can imagine the response - "You want i
I tried a sked with a station about 120 or so miles away in the January contest with my VX-6R and FM. That's all he had for 222. I could hear nothing on the VX-6R. I could hear his signal with my 222
Hi Joe, What call will you be using? 73, Zack W9SZ _______________________________________________ VHFcontesting mailing list VHFcontesting@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo
We've been having a local 2 meter FM Challenge type of contest for several years. I've been lax in getting it organized lately but the ones we've had have been mainly in February or March on a Sunday
No but I think it is a great idea! We used to have a tower similar to a lookout tower at the Wullenweber site of the University of Illinois south of Bondville, IL. It was 110 feet to the top platform
To tell the truth, 90% of the reason why I even do VHF+ contesting is to make QSO's with stations hundreds of miles away. There just isn't any excitement that compares to that. Actually I'd settle fo
Random QSO's are very rare for me on those bands. It's almost all "What bands do you have?" on 50 or 144 MHz and then "QSY 222.105?" etc., working up the bands till we either run out of bands or prop
I hope we have a good 6m opening again. I'll most likely go with the Hilltopper class again. Look for me late on Saturday night or Sunday morning. I'll be listening for you. 73, Zack W9SZ ___________
I tend to agree. I just want to get on and make QSO's. If someone else cheats or does something that is questionable, that is their conscience. I generally participate as a Single-Op Portable (QRP).
That's a lot of money for masts that go up to 25 feet. I wonder how strong theyare? I wonder if one could handle four beams on 10 foot booms? Radio Shack used to sell these 5-foot mast sections that
UHF/SHF contesting is definitely OK to discuss here! I'm all ears. 73, Zack W9SZ _______________________________________________ VHFcontesting mailing list VHFcontesting@contesting.com http://lists.c
I'd like to see that happen! We could always have a CWAC by some separate sponsor but I don't know if anyone has come forward to do that yet. 73, Zack W9SZ ___________________________________________
I tried sending mine on Saturday night (I was a Hilltopper and done with the contest by then) and it bounced but I tried again Sunday night and it was accepted. 73, Zack W9SZ ________________________
Yes, but of all the contests you mention, the only one where I go to Lake Michigan to try to make QSO's across the lake is the 10 GHz contest. I've always wanted to do a comparison of signals on 5.7
What the FCC says is different from what people use in practice. A key or keyer is still the cheapest, simplest and most energy-conservative method of "digital" communication available. I have said b
Interesting. I'm not surprised you didn't work me in EN50 (QRP Hilltopper) but there were stronger stations available in EN50 (K9ZO for one). Maybe next time we'll have decent openings. 73, Zack W9SZ
