I'm testing a 2/2 40m stack that uses a Cushcraft 402CD@70' and a XM240@130'. I'm feeding this with a WX0B stackmatch. The 402CD is directly coax fed with some ferrite beads over the coax , and the X

The XM240 balun is simply 3 turns around 3 stacked toroids going one way, then 3 additional turns reversing direction and going the other way. Cable is no-name rg400/thermax style cable. Scott KA1CLX

Thanks for the reply Scott. I guess what I really need to know is which side of the driven element is the "hot side" (i.e. goes to the center conductor), and which is connected to the coax ground. If

Hi Will, The problem, of course is that the connect is "out there" on the boom and will require bringing it in to test it by switching the connection. Easiest way to try a phase flip is to make a pie

Sure sounds like it to me. I would use the IDENTICAL balun on both antennas - thus insuring having the antennas in phase. Cheers, Steve K7LXC -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/towertalkfaq.htm

When stacking antennas, IDENTICAL is the operative word, for the antennas, feedlines, and baluns. The time delay through the system will affect the stack phasing. You should convert the lower antenna

I think you should make both antennas equal at the feed point. If you use a balun on one you need to match that on the other. Make shure that baluns are the same and connected the same. Jim -- FAQ on

That definately sounds like the problem, based on my recent experience. I had the exact same symptoms. Stack always worse than any single antenna, sometimes dramatically so. Just swap the phase of th
