I'm in the midst of erecting a tower for my quaint little A3S. In readying the A3S, I need to consider how to add a balun. Cushcraft recommends a coiled coax balun, which I know would work great, and

Bill - Look at Force-12's B1-5 balun. It is in a plastic box such as you mentioned, 3" by 3", with mounting tabs. It has an SO-234 on one side, and a pair of 14 GA. wires coming out of the opposite s

There must be some misunderstanding Bill. Current baluns are the less core-critical type of balun. By far the most core, power, and impedance critical balun is the voltage type balun. It is also the

That's good to know. Also good to know. Exactly the type of information I need. Is this typical of a tribander whose feedpoint impedance is empiracally designed to be about 50 ohms? Why not just wind

unless you one-for some very coil, balun? I have wound several and that is the easy part. These are the W1JR type, illustrated in W2FMI's book. The problem has been sealing them against moisture and

Greg, there are commercial choices. To see a Commercial 5 kW type with good mechanical design please have a look at our baluns at www.arraysolutions.com. We sell a lot of them. Lifetime warranty too.

It would seem that a commercial version of the W1JR type Balun is alive and well represented. Makes me wonder why I ordered 5 cores and the necessary Teflon coax and wound my own. Most of mine are si

Someone else suggested in a direct e-mail to go to the Home Depot electrical and buying a can of Plastic Dip. A bead balun could then be successively dipped in the Plastic Dip to seal and protect it.

Hi Bill, I hope no one reaches their curie temperature....but...... I never worry about keeping beads dry. The only parts that are water problems are the connectors. Better to have air over the beads

I find very efficient and often much cheaper than using ferrite beads a choke made with a proper coaxial line, moreover the coax choke is linear and predictable in behaviour and response. Resonating
