Unequal currents in 1/4 wave radials is to be expected primarily due to three factors: 1.) varying quality of the ground under each radial; 2.) the effect of close by objects such as buildings and ot

Great post, Dennis. Was not familiar with Dick's work, but what you cite is consistent with extensive work that N6LF has published on his excellent website, which I have often referenced. Mostly that

I am very interested in the shortened radials hypothesis. Has there been any documented testing of full length vs shortened radials done ? Bob K6UJ _______________________________________________ ___

I've used shortened elevated radials in a few projects.  Made sense to me - but anyone who knows me will confirm I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Started out with radials that were a bit sho

Hi Jeff, Thanks for sharing your experience with shortened radials. This is music to my ears. I don't have enough real estate to install 1/4 wave radials so if I can do shortened radials and not sacr

Inquiring and motivated minds would want get on the N6LF web site, find the QEX series on elevated radials by same, and dig into the secrets of the mystical elevated radial, laid bare by N6LF through

I read Rudys article but before reading his article, I have used 12 1/4 wave elevated for my 40/30 DXE vertical for the past 12 years. Great results. The base of the vertical is 25' above ground.. 73

Last time I studied Rudy's work on radials was his 2-part QEX piece, reprinted on his website. The "slightly less than a quarter-wave" applied specifically to elevated radials, for which he also said

Dick Weber, K5IU, wrote a very informative article in the late 90's which was published in Communications Quarterly. He argued that 1/4 wave long radials were the poorest length on could use. He stro
