A coax choke is not going to significantly effect forward gain unless you have a bad connection. It could effect front-to-back if the choke is done incorrectly. If the SWR is OK, then it is probably

Hi Carol, This is not such a strange problem at all and will be quite common between the 2 antenna's at different heights ana at different times of the day or night, into different parts of the world
