Sory, forgot to mention that the 40m1L is a rotatable dipole-- no front/back. Jonathan -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/towertalkfaq.html Submissions: towertalk@contesting.com Administrative
Of course, I will call Mike--on Tuesday. In the meantime, I'm trying to troubleshoot this myself (my own brand of Masocism). I've checked all my joints and in retesting the SWR, I'm now seeing the me
One problem down, one to go. I checked both the linear loading bar (one set screw was loose) and the connection to MFJ-259 (original model I believe)--it was also loose. After tightening them both, t
Pat, I agree that the freq. of the best SWR will change as the antenna is raised. But that shouldn't prevent me from getting a good SWR SOMEWHERE on the spectrum. Right now, the best I'm getting is 3
I had a similar problem when I installed the 2 element version of this antenna. It turned out that the balun was faulty. Disecting the balun revealed no problems, but when it was promptly replaced by
Ok, Guys, we're getting somewhere. I first tried the normal setup (into the 1:1 balun) with a uncoiled length of RG58 (the only cable of any length I could liberate)between the MFJ-259 and the balun.
The connected balun with an open end added several pf of capacitance shunted accross the feedpoint. The real test was when you disconnected it entirely. 2.75/1 vswr with the antenna setting within 50
VERRRY Interesting! I tried your test this AM. I used a dummy load (the MFJ 264) since I didn't have any bare resistors handy. The sweep showed 2.1:1 from 6Mhz to 7.5Mhz and 2.75:1 from 7.5Mhz to 8Mh

Thank you all very much for trying to help me this weekend. I think it is now time fore to talk to Mike at M2. I'm sure he'll know exactly what's going on here. I'll report back what I find tomorrow.
TO: Pat, Phil, Dennis, Don, Jay,Joe, Guy, Eric, Bill, Bruce, Larry, Dale and Terry, Well, I spoke this morning to someone at M2 (Mike was on vacation), and they confirmed that their balun shouldn't b
