Hi All, I am hoping for some help here with the DC rotor box from M2. The rotor and box were installed brand new along with the rest of the installation and worked fine at calibration on the dining r

Have you checked each control wire to ground? Did you turn it on without any cables attached first? What smoked. That would be a good indicator of what might be going on. Since you haven't turned the

I'm not familiar with the Orion rotator, can you apply voltage from a separate power supply and see the rotator turns without the controller? BTW, Green Heron Engineering makes a great controller! Jo

What do you mean by 'smoking?' Does a fuse blow? Does the control box stop smoking when you fire it up on the dining room table? You should be able to turn the DC Orion with a 12v power supply or bat

The OR2800DC runs on 30-47VDC. Polarity determines rotation direction and voltage determines speed. If the control box is smoking, there is probably a stray wire strand shorted in the control cable s

Nat sent me a picture of the inside of the controller. It appears one of the DC voltage components near the rear panel is fried, maybe a regulator. Black soot on the board and melted plastic sprayed

Hi Terry and all, The box was indeed pouring out smoke while idling. No activity by me inspired this action. The fuse was being protected by the electronics within. The rotor, cable and box worked pe

Not necessarily... the bathtub curve applies, it is much more likely for brand new electronics to fail than those that have been run for years. If the factory didn't give it a burn in period it could

The first thing to do is to see exactly which component lost it's magic smoke. That may give you some idea where to start looking. As far as measuring the wiring to the tower don't just check for the
