Mine is a few years old and is a big noise generator, too - especially on 6m. The noise comes from the reed relay rapidly pulsing a static 5VDC source while the rotor turns - essentially a small spar

Marc, I have two Orion 2800 rotators that have operated very reliably for me for the past 7 years. One rotator is 120 meters from my ham shack and the other rotator is over 200 meters from my shack.
