Has anyone used the 65' Hygain pushup masts for building a 80m vertical? They look like a very cheap candidate (I think they list for around $195) Neal k3nc __________________________________________
Hi Neal, If you are writing about the mast that's aluminum, 65 feet tall and uses 11 six foot sections, I'd avoid it myself. The bottom is 2" o.d. and this tapers down to around .6" at the top. Perso
HI Neal, I have never tried the HyGain, but I agree with Rob about it looking very rickety for that height. There are a couple of guys on eBay who sell 4ft sections of 1.75 in aluminum masts (many of
If using a steel mast then first calculate the RF resistance at the frequency of operation. The RF integrity at the various junctions is also far from ideal. Aluminum is still the best for a radiator
Thanks all I think I am going to try it. I definitely was going to replace the hose clamps (I dont even use them on yagis anymore) and the area is very wind protected (read, hot in the summer time) p
If you do the math, I think you'll find that thanks to skin effect and the diameter of the mast, almost any metallic tubular mast will to have less RF resistance than a big copper wire. THAT is the r
I bought two 50 foot steel pushups from an outfit in Memphis 2 years ago when I was down there--they were the last ones they had. I got them for $90 each--they took $30 off to get rid of them. Last y
Please do the next time you see one using a thin wall steel mast with less than perfect plating that may quickly rust in some enviroments. So is Ameritron and their amps pretty much own the market. H

Check the drawing in attachment, I don't remember who designed it, I just saved the picture from the website. It gonna be sturdier than Hy-Gain, because the bottom 30+ feet are 12' sections of 2", 1
