Any recommendations? I was thinking about taping the place for the cut with electrical tape and then wedging it in a piece of copper tubing.... thanks, 73, Phil W5BVB ________________________________
Phil, I do the electrical tape and use either in the field a 36 in long BOLT cutter or in the shop a high speed Wizzer ( cut off tool ) Wayne ,W3EA Sent from Mail<https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Lin

Electrical tape either side of cut area and a grinder. About 5 seconds and your done. Kindly use Safety glasses / goggles. I do the electrical tape and use either in the field a 36 in long BOLT cut
Jim nailed it. Thats the easiest and cleanest cut. I use a 4" Harbor Freight angle grinder with a thin cut off wheel. Works great. Bob K6UJ _______________________________________________ ___________
I have used a diamond cutting wheel on a Ryobi grinder and that makes a slick portable and fast cut on EHS of any size. PLus about anything else you may want to whack down of the metal variety... 73
For 1/4 or 5/16 EHS, I tape the area with reinforced strapping tape and cut though center of the tape with bolt cutters. This is very quick and easy. The strands on both ends are contained and ready

Here's what I use. I have several. One used in smaller cable with one hand. The other used on larger cable. I've cut up to 5/16" cable with it. https://www.felco.com/us_en/our-products/cable-cutt
Nice tools to have, if you are a professional, needing to cut many wires. For the typical ham radio person, bolt cutters are much cheaper, and will cut many cables before becoming too dull to use. I

Phil I never tried it on ss cable, but if you have a Dremel tool, try cutting it with one of their very thin cutoff wheels. I have a feeling that might work. I have easily cut off 1/8" nails coming o
I'm guessing you are talking about SS "aircraft" cable, right? Bolt cutters don't work on finely stranded cable because. For that you need either cutters meant for the job, or a cutoff wheel on a gri

Is it smart to use SS aircraft cable in place of the factory galvanized cable? _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerTalk mailing list T
My foldover tower is guyed in 4 directions at two levels. I use 1/4 in SS wire rope and cut all 8 pieces using the Dremel cutoff discs. Go easy as the cutoff materiel is quite brittle. WEAR EYE PROTE
I can't believe all this discussion about cutting 1/4" cable. Just buy a cable cutter - small, cheap, and simple. I have one and it cuts cleanly in one second. Probably could do 1/2". 73, Bob - W3YY
For smaller cable, maybe up to 1/4", I wrap several layers of black tape around it an inch or so long. I place the tapped section of cable on a backup block of steel then use a sharp, large chisel an
For crankup towers? Seems like it should be OK, I'd check with the tower manufacturer. I think of crankup tower duty as similar to crane service in that the cable is mostly stressed by the wrap aroun
Another reason besides what Steve mentions is SS cable isn't as strong as hoist wire rope, where are many more choices of construction and alloys. My read of the PE wet stamp for my HDX 589 causes me
I replaced my original galvanized cable with 7x19 SS wire cable on my HG70-HD some time back. I live on the ocean. The original cable was from 1982 (installed at the beach in 2003). The change to SS
