I have an US Tower HDX-89 tower, and I need to replace the Tailtwister 2 currently nestled in the top section below the thrust bearing. Is it possible, and what's the procedure, to remove and reinsta
I was told the proper method is to raise the tower whatever distance is needed to expose the rotor. Then place a support (it was said a 2" pipe long enough to hold the inner tower section high enough
I have an HDX-589 (with the older Z-bracing) through the procedure would be the same with any similar tower. I didn't remove the antennas or the 20' mast. I have only tilted my tower over when I have

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'll likely be doing this (if the weather holds) over the next week or so & I'll take some pictures and post a link to them. An Orion 2800 is replacing the Tailt
Before you have the mast pulled up as Steve recommends, put a couple of muffler clamps on the mast touching the top of the bearing to positively prevent it slipping down. I like to move them an inch
I've done as Steve suggested several times during the few years that I owned a crank-up tower. Changing a rotator this way is pretty easy and safe if you block the tower sections. John KK9A 2 current

Steve: What are you standing on when you perform this process? Are you on a ladder, a man lift, or standing on the tower sections? I have never found that 2x4s or steel pipes truly block a crank up t
I use two 2 X 4 blocks of wood in each section and it has worked for 30 years. Then I climb the tower, belt off, and perform the task. Be careful. Semper Fi, Tommy - K6YE DX IS Steve: What are you st

What Steve suggests is doubly true for Tri-ex towers like the LM-470 as even when they are cranked all the way down the two top section are never truly down on stops, they are by design still hanging
