I want to remember that there is a possibility to get rid of the capacitor by adjusting the length of the drive element. I purchased a 4 element yagi of unknown origin at a flee market. It has a gamm

The gamma match itself is an inductor ... you can only cancel that inductance by putting a series capacitor inline with it. IF you do not, changing the length of the driven element will change the AP

I have a couple of homebrew 4 el on 3/4 wavelength boom yagis with gamma matches. The antennas were designed to have a -j component at the feedpoint. Using a gamma match without a capacitor resulted

And what happened to the resonant frequency and f/b and gain? Any change to the DE length will affect all three of those! 73 Don N8DE _______________________________________________ _________________

changing the de length has a very, very, tiny effect on f/b and gain... its only the slight difference in coupling due to the usually small changes in length that would cause changes to f/b and gain

The gamma match inductance has the same effect as adding a loading coil to the element thus making it electrically longer. Reducing the physical length of the element moves the electrical length bac

NO ... the gamma match inductance has little/no effect on the electrical length of the driven element. The Gamma match is simply ONE SIDE of the original DELTA match which has a balanced feedline tap
