I am rebuilding a multiband dipole and am looking for recommendations on the strongest center insulator with an SO-239 connector. Regards, John S. AA0ES ______________________________________________
John, Well as a guy who is mostly a "wires guy" in my opinion the "Budwig HQ-1" is hard to beat. Wireman (as well other dealers) have them (see http://thewireman.com/antacc.html Item #809). These thi
The Budwig RF-1 gets my vote. I use 4 of them in an 80m wire array that has very high tension on the center insulator. 7 years so far with no sign of a problem from them. Cheap, too 73, Pete N4ZR At
Maybe I am missing something here? Why would anyone want to use a center connector on a dipole with a PL259 coax connector? Seems like you create a lot more problems keeping water out of the coax wit
Careful Gary. You are showing your 'vintage'. =) Actually, The Wireman had one of those lying on his table at Dayton a few years ago and could not believe the number of 'hams' that asked what the hec
Military dipole center insulators are sealed and the coax goes inside, thus eliminating the connector problems. Chuck W5PR Careful Gary. You are showing your 'vintage'. =) Actually, The Wireman had o
The HQ-1 actually has a little molded-in rim around the base of the SO-239 to facilitate good taping. I have had my 4 up 7 years or so, and have never had a problem at that point with weatherproofing
This is not what you're looking for, but it might be of interest to others. A new antenna center insulator from Ten Tec, http://www.tentec.com/TT3003.htm 73 de Mike, N9BOR A-1, FISTS, JARL A-1, SMC
You still need to waterproof the end of the coax even if it's pointed down. The braid will "wick" water up into the cable and the cable still "breathes" with changes in temperature and pressure. True
HelloIs the old Hy-Gain style dipole center insulator { black cycolac plastic, split in half, assembles with a multitude of screws} still made or a similiar one available? I have used these for years
Hi Byron ... yes, they do .. about 30 bux ... called the C1 -- http://www.hy-gain.com/price.php I think I still have a couple of those somewhere .. or not .. HIHI... 73, Mark AA6DX -- Original Messag
Ten Tec also has one similar... Hi Byron ... yes, they do .. about 30 bux ... called the C1 -- http://www.hy-gain.com/price.php I think I still have a couple of those somewhere .. or not .. HIHI... 7
Is there a quality commercial dipole center insulator available. I have searched the towertalk archives and I am seeing mixed results. John KK9A _______________________________________________ ______

There are some pretty stout insulators available intended for electric fence construction. They are found at places like Orchelns, Atwoods, Tractor Supply, and other farm and ranch supply stores. Ski
John - I've been quite satisfied with the Alpha Delta center piece for field expedient dipoles. It has a built in PL-259 and stainless steel studs to which you attach your wires. It also has stout po
I doubt seriously that it has a built-in PL259. Bet it's a built-in SO239. 73 Don N8DE John - I've been quite satisfied with the Alpha Delta center piece for field expedient dipoles. It has a built i
D'oh! You're right, of course. I was multitasking.... that's what I get! Thanks for the correction! Matt _______________________________________________ ______________________________________________

This is electrically quite nice, but needs serious strain relief if you're putting much stress on it (heavy coax, a long run between supports, trees that sway in the wind). When I've used them, I've
The Budwig HQ-1 does not appear to be very robust but it did seem to have more favorable comments than the competition. I spent at least an hour searching and could not find a better center insulator
