Has anyone come up with a way to connect flat copper straps to ground rods? DXXE sells copper clamps w/ hardware, but at $35 a pop, I hoping that there is a more reasonable way to get the job done. M

Hello Ray, The grounding system is definately not a place to skimp. Its what protects your radios, and really your entire home, from lightning. My tower gets hit directly on average three times a yea
A good ground system is nice, and expensive. Is there any way to reduce cost, por example, may I connect 2 or 3 rotor control lines (5 wires each) to a single Polyphaser IS-RCT? So 2-3 wires will be
No you cannot do that. The device basically monitors each of the colored wires for too high a voltage and shorts it to ground if it's too high. It would be the same as trying to share the same cable
Thanks Drax There´s too much $$$ difference for example between 3 x IS-RCT (for 3 rotors) and 1 x 16 terminal ArraySolutions cable arrestor (for 3 rotors). I think they do the same. 73, Jorge --Mensa
I highlu recommens KF7P Metalworks. http://www.kf7p.com/KF7P/GroundRodClamps.html I just ordered some ground rod clamps last week. They are at my office so I haven't seem them yet but if the quality
I have used a number of the Polyphaser and DX Engineering ground clamps. Unfortunately they are designed for 0.625" ground rods which seems to be impossible to find. Most 5/8 ground rods typically me
I had a piece that was about three inches. I cut the part that wrapped around the ground rod to about 1.5 inches and wrapped it around the rod, securing it with several stainless hose clamps. Bill K4
I preformed the copper strap around half of the copper clad ground rod and silver soldered the strap to the rod. Mark N1UK Has anyone come up with a way to connect flat copper straps to ground rods?
As another option, I believe that cadweld sells a form designed to work with copper strap and circular copper clad ground rods Mark N1UK -- Original Message -- From: "Mark Robinson" <markrob@mindspri
I do the following 1. Bring the end of the copper strap around the ground rod so that you have about 6" or so of overlap at the end; 2. Drill a 3/8' hole thru both pieces of the strap about 1/2' or s
I take mine and wrap the copper around the ground rod and the cut a slit in the top and bottom with a hack saw and then use hose clamps. 73, Dave N0EOP I highlu recommens KF7P Metalworks. http://www.

IIRC, W8JI punches a hole on the strap, slips it over a ground rod, then hard-solders the connection. It "looks" like he might shape the strap to help hold a pool of solder until it hardens. Note tha

I did the same thing. I used Harris Stay Silv 15. It was a lot cheaper then http://georgiacopper.com/BrazingRod.html Since this is mainly molten copper, it won't flow very much when the heat is remov
Kirk, There were a several of ways mentioned. Here is a brief summary: 1. Silver solder the copper sheet to the ground rod. Must use a high temp flame source such as MAPGAS or acetylene. 2. Use a "U"
