Howdy, TowerTalkians -- I've got an antenna problem and I'm stumped. An M2 15M monobander developed some high swr - 3:1 or more where it used to be 1.1:1. I took a crane and man-basket up to the feed

off. Add different lengths of RG-8, the swr varied from 2.5:1 to 5:1. It doesn't seem to be wx related. < I'd suspect common mode currents on the coax outer. Some ferrite rings or clip on sleeves, p

Don't know but other antennas - even other 15M ones - are fine. It's just a problem with this 15M antenna. That's the perplexing part. :-( Cheers, Steve K7LXC TOWER TECH _____________________________

Something very similar happened here a few weeks ago, and it turned out to be a bad PL259. The center pin had become intermittently open-circuit when plugged into the jack at the end of the feedline,

So, with the MFJ at the shack end of the coax, everything is fine, but the rig shows the bad SWR? Certainly, adding coax shouldn't change the SWR (at least that much) Is the problem power related? Pe

3:1. Antenna tuner was 2.5:1 to 5:1. It If you changed the length of cable and SWR changed it tells you the cable (towards the rig since it didn't change outside), meter, or connections are a proble

In case this point was buried in my previous post, when SWR-testing the feedline and antenna, it's always a good idea to leave a 50R load connected in the shack. At each place where you break the fee

If the SWR or the resonance of the antenna changes with feedline changes, you have common-mode current on the feedline. Ground are important as well. 73 John _________________________________________

feedline changes, important as well. Actually it can mean three things John. 1.) The antenna impedance and SWR is actually changing because the feedline is part of the radiating system (feedline act

And it doesn't have to be any high power load, either. A scrounged up 50 ohm BNC termination from a dismantled coax Ethernet installation would work fine. (but check to see if it's really 50 ohms). F
