- Hi. You can turn any vertical dipole into a yagi if you put a reflector near it. One of the easier ones (I think) is the half-square beam (HSQ) which I have described at www.isy.liu.se/~mj/HAM/ANT It

- They definitely do! It depends more on the ground plane you care to set up than anything else! A simple 8 meters high element with a few VERY random length radials brought me stations from Argentina
