I can't resist adding to this thread. I was in contact with Larry earlier about my experiences with skew from a location too close to the auroral zone. I have observed that when absorption is high wh

Many thanks to all for the replies I received on this subject. Nearly everybody suggested that I talk to Polyphaser and I have just finished a long conversation with their technical support. They are

Hi All I thought I would follow up on my post a couple of months ago on lightning damage. I think I will back on the air in a limited fashion within the next few weeks, but the strike damaged much of

There is no such thing as a feedline which will not radiate/pick up signals. Even a solid copper outer cable. The difference is only in the degree of leakage, but the least leaky cables are those wit

Forced myself out of bed at 0430 local and K1B was about S6 with lotsa QRN crashes. He seemed to be hearing very well and was getting (slightly) louder at 0500 local (0900Z) when I went back to bed.

In my experience it makes very little difference what is under (or around) the beverage. I have 12 beverages at 30 degree intervals here. The due south/due north beverages are the same antenna fed at

I learn yet again what an anomalous band is 160m! I am fairly sure that the 5R8FU I just worked was the real thing. He was a genuine 589 on my 90 degree beverage and I worked him with 100W because my

Am I the only one experiencing almost zero conditions on 160m? Since the flare at the beginning of November the band has been almost completely dead here. Just one or two weak Europeans and weak VKs.

May I thank all those who replied to my message about 160m conditions, or the lack of them. Northern stations universally agreed that conditions have been terrible. More southerly stations felt that
