OK I guess the problem is QRM levels in EU.  The CQ WW weekend is a big difference from a typical Wednesday or Thursday evening. I was just getting paranoid when many stations in a row could not copy

I heard G4EIM/QRP  calling AA1K and the signal was very Q5 and pretty impressive at about 22:00 UT.  I tried calling a bunch of CQs up 2 khz, but had no takers. I'll be on tonight a bit more. 73 Dave
