I agree that the coax is the most likely culprit, but check the connections at your antennas, as well, particularly where telescoping elements connect. Aluminum oxidizes into a non-conductive materia

While I agree with Bill that you should replace your coax, the symptoms you describe, especially where you lose RX sensitivity after transmitting, but that tapping the key to cycle the T/R relay will

it sounds like water in the coax.. But take it a step at a time, put a dummy load at the antenna and transmit, if its stable, ya broke the antenna ( dropping the whip inside to far can break the wire
